Anunnities

Both annuities and life insurance should be considered in your long-term financial plan. Both include death benefits, but life insurance is bought in the event of you die too soon. An annuity is generally bought in case you live too long. In other words, life insurance provides economic protection to your loved ones if you die before your financial obligations to them are met, while annuities guard against outliving your assets.

There are two main types of annuities—deferred and immediate—and two main types of life insurance—term and whole life.

Auto Insurance

Auto insurance protects you against financial loss if you have an accident. It is required by the State of Florida to carry a minimum of PIP insurance if you own an operational vehicle. Auto insurance provides property, liability and medical coverage:

  • Property coverage; pays for damage to or theft of your car.
  • Liability coverage; pays for your legal responsibility to others for bodily injury or property damage.
  • Medical coverage; pays for the cost of treating injuries, rehabilitation and sometimes lost wages and funeral expenses.

Boat Insurance

Small boats such as canoes and small sail boats or small power boats with less than 25 mile per hour horse power have limited coverage under a homeowners or renters insurance policy. Coverage is usually about $1,000 or 10 percent of the home's property value and generally includes the boat, motor and trailer combined. Liability coverage is typically not included–but it can be added to your homeowners policy.

Larger and faster boats such as yachts, and personal watercraft such as jet skis and wave runners require a separate boat insurance policy. The size, type and value of the craft, as well as, the water in which you use it are factored into how much you will pay for insurance coverage.

For physical loss or damage, coverage includes the hull, machinery, fittings, furnishings and permanently attached equipment as part of either an actual cash value policy or on an agreed amount value basis. These policies also provide broader liability protection than a homeowners policy. But there are distinct differences between the two types of policies.

Business Auto Insurance

As a business owner, you need the same kinds of insurance coverage’s for the car you use in your business as you do for a car used for personal travel; the same coverage for liability, collision and comprehensive, medical payments and coverage for uninsured motorists. In fact, many business people use the same vehicle for both business and pleasure. If the vehicle is owned by the business, make sure the name of the business appears on the policy as the "principal insured" rather than your name. This will avoid possible confusion in the event that you need to file a claim or a claim is filed against you.

Business Owners Insurance

Business Owners Insurance insures a business against accidents and injury that might happen on its premises, as well as exposures related to its products. It will protect you from payments for bodily injury or property damage to a third party, for medical expenses accruing to the underlying incident, for the cost of defending lawsuits including investigations and settlements, and for any bonds or judgments required during an appeal procedure. Not included is professional liability insurance.

Business Interruption insurance covers lost income and expenses incurred when a company suffers disaster-related losses. With Business Interruption insurance, payroll expenses and other regular expenses, such as rent, are covered. Business Owners Policies will usually cover up to a year of lost revenue resulting from a covered property loss. Disability Disability insurance provides financial support in the event the policyholder is unable to work because of disabling illness or injury. It provides monthly support to help pay such obligations as mortgages and credit cards. Disability overhead insurance allows business owners to cover the overhead expenses of their business while they are unable to work. Total permanent disability insurance provides benefits when a person is permanently disabled and can no longer work in their profession. Workers' compensation insurance replaces all or part of a worker's wages lost and medical expenses incurred because of a job-related injury.

Flood Insurance

Flood insurance is coverage against property loss from flooding. To determine risk factors for specific properties, insurers will often refer to topographical maps that show lowlands and floodplains that are susceptible to flooding. Health Health insurance policies cover the cost of medical treatments. Dental insurance, like medical insurance, is coverage for individuals to protect them against dental costs.

Home Insurance

Home insurance is there for you if damage or destruction of a home occurs from a disaster. In some areas, the standard insurance excludes certain types of disasters, such as flood and earthquakes; however, those situations can be covered with additional coverage. Maintenance-related problems are the homeowners' responsibility. The policy may include inventory, or this can be bought as a separate policy, especially for people who rent housing. Some packages may include liability and/or legal responsibility for injuries and property damage caused by members of the household, including pets. Life Insurance

Life insurance provides a monetary benefit to a decedent's family or beneficiary, and may specifically provide for income to an insured person's family, burial, funeral and other final expenses. Life insurance policies often allow the option of having the proceeds paid to the beneficiary either in a lump sum cash payment or an annuity.

Mobile Home Insurance

Mobile Home Insurance provides coverage against covered loss from most perils, except those specifically excluded in the policy. Some of the covered perils include: Fire, water damage from rupture of plumbing, and steam or water heating systems.

  • Personal Property Protection provides coverage for your personal property against loss from: fire, lightning, smoke, vandalism, falling objects, collapse and any other perils that may be listed in your policy.
  • Theft Coverage Provides coverage for your personal property against several types of loss due to theft including: theft both on and off premises, stolen credit cards, stolen or forged checks.
  • Family Liability and Guest Medical Protection provides coverage for your family against non-auto liability claims brought by others for accidental bodily injury or damage to their property. Also provides Guest Medical Protection, if someone is injured while on your property with your permission.

Other Mobile Home protection can be purchased, such as Loss of Use of Residence Premises pays for the reasonable increase in your living expenses necessary for maintaining your normal standard of living for up to the amount of time specified in the policy if you are unable to occupy your mobile home due to a covered loss. Emergency Removal Service; pays up to $500 for reasonable expenses you incur to remove your mobile home if it is endangered by a loss we cover. You can customize Your Mobile Home Insurance with: Replacement Cost for Your Mobile home and Personal Property, which, provides full replacement cost for your insured mobile home and for most of your insured personal property. If a covered total loss occurs, the insurance company will pay the full cost to repair or replace your mobile home or damaged personal property with no deduction for depreciation. (Subject to limits in the policy.) Trip Collision covers your home while moving it to another location. Extended Coverage on Fire Department Charges and Extended Coverage on Jewelry, Watches, and Furs.

Mobile home insurance policies, like other insurance, have limits of liability and are subject to the terms and conditions of the policy, which can vary by state.

Pension Insurance

Umbrella Insurance Policy

If you are ever sued, your standard homeowners or auto policy will provide you with some liability coverage, paying for judgments against you and your attorney's fees, up to a limit set in the policy. However, you may want to have an extra layer of liability protection. An umbrella policy is there when you reach the limit on your homeowners, renters, condo’s or auto policy. It will also cover you for things such as libel and slander.

Workers Compensation Insurance

In general, to be eligible for workers’ compensation:

  • The accident must be due to a specific work activity, and it must have occurred at a specific time.
  • In addition, the accident needs to have occurred at work or during a work-related activity or function. As a business owner, you may need workers' compensation insurance to protect employees who are injured on the job and to comply with workers' compensation laws.
